The Meriden Motorcycle Club & The Pathfinders Motorcycle Club will jointly host a One-Day Youth Clinic on Saturday April 7th at MMC's property in Meriden, Connecticut. We are just getting the clinic planning process under way and will be looking to solict the help of experienced racers/riders to assist as instructors. We also would welcome input/suggestions, tell us what you would like to see at a youth clinic. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!

We have gotten plenty of views on this post regarding the upcoming youth clinic, but not one post with any ideas. Does anyone have interest in an event like this?

Designate a nice woods area for kids who are simpley to inexperianced ! Some of your students may have not seen anything but a grass lawn yet! Have some people their on foot to assist! For them to have confidents on trying new skills they need to see that someone is there to catch them !
Iwould hate to commit this early ,but I will help.
Steve.

My 6 year old is in need of trail experience, he has mastered the backyard. My biggest problem is a place to ride that has easy trails. All the places I ride are the typical NE rock/root snot.

Like Pete said, it's going to be built with kids in mind. A good woods loop that a peewee can handle, coupled with a MX course with whoops and jumps, but no gap jumps so a peewee can roll-over the jumps etc. This will be a great place to teach beginner and basic skills. It may also develop into a great place to ride and race mini's or for parents to hop on an (XR, TTR whatever) and play follow the leader with their kids. There will be more on this as it develops, but we're pretty excited!

About the youth clinic: I would like to see a good showing of parents along the side of the trail. Each one willing to help, or stop a kid and give a 10 second lesson if he sees the kid having a hard time with a certain part of the course. Also a quick class with kids all lined up and an instructor to explain how to approach an obstacle and master it. Instructor explains it, then does it to show how. Then the kids try it with a couple parents on each side of the trail...

I am in no way an experienced racer but would be willing to help in any way that I can if my schedule allows on April 7th.

I travel a bit for work and the coming months, the first half of the year, are looking to be pretty hectic with last minute travel popping up all over the place.

Let me know if there is someone I should get my contact info to to stay in the information loop about this.

Thanks,

Joel

Keep an eye on this post on NEDB. I will put up any updates or changes as well as an event schedule once we get it finalized.

the MMC guys ran a nervous novice event several years ago.  the course was perfect for beginners.  My son loved it.  Had several tight turns and they had to get use to seeing things taped off.  If they could recreate that course again that would be great.  Very friendly bunch of kids in the club.  Played catch with my son for about an hour after the event.  Good luck!

Will you be breaking the kids up by experience? My son is on the verge of 85cc and pretty fast on a 65.

The plan is to break the kids up into groups based upon ability, bike size, & age...Then pair those groups with the instructors that they can best relate to...

Happy New Years everyone!!!

I am working on the flyer right now. I should have it done sometime next week. Once we review and approve it, we will get it posted.

We have a lot of work to do up at the club. That October snow storm really did a number on the woods and all of our trails. We should have it clear enough to have a real good loop and some test sections to work on your skills.

Thanks,
Terry
