ORIGINAL: jzins2kids I was extremely disappointed this weekend and felt that a comment must be posted. So...here goes! My son raced in the Pee Wee III Class and was the last to get off the line. Jacob was visibly having a difficult time in the mud and was getting discouraged. However, when I heard a lady yell to her son, "Tyler, pass him...he's too slow". I can honestly say, I wanted to SLUG THE CRAP (putting it mildly) out of her. I turned to her while trying to run to encourage my son at the next turn, I yelled back, "Yes, he is slow, he is my son and I would rather him be slow and safe than get hurt". It was not much longer after that that we pulled him from the race. He was visibly over-his-head and was upset. He also told me later that night that he heard the lady call him "SLOW". As parents, we try to encourage EVERY child that goes out there to ride/race. My son is NOT a racer; but, a child that goes out to ride an enjoyable ride. Yes, he is the one that comes off the course to tell me that he saw my favorite flower out there. With that said, I know at this point in time he will not be the next Scott D. or Jake K; but, you never know what the future holds. However, when he is out there, he puts all of his effort to ride and finish...and always with a smile. So, the next time you want to shout something out, please make it a POSITIVE remark and try to remember that these are children that learn better with words of encouragement! P.S. - Remember, we are all there to have a fun family weekend. Jennifer it's too bad that happened and as we all know some people take this Pee Wee series in the context of pro racing. I will take this opportunity to remind people that the Pee Wee series is for kids to learn how to ride and acquire the skills needed to compete at the next level. As allot of you know a few parents almost destroyed this series a few years ago and thankfully through some hard work from Mike Hery, Bill Riordan, and the rest of us concerned parents the series survived and is now a huge success. People need to know this is a learning experience for the kids and a way to encourage them to try hard and better their skills. The Pee Wee series is nothing more than that. A weekend with MOM and Dad, Brothers and Sisters, and tons of Friends enjoying a weekend away from the video games and TV. The Pee Wee kids we have developed have thrived in the Hare Scramble series and are prepared for the racing events they have encountered. I as well as any parent enjoy the competition of these events and love watching these kids tear it up and have a blast doing so. To all of the parents that think racing and winning is the key to the Pee Wee's i suggest you move your son or daughter into the Mini class. The Jr. Enduro and Harescramble series offer all the competition you can handle. Here is a copy of the rules regarding the Netra Pee Wee series. F. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. All riders AND THEIR PARENTS/GUARDIANS will be required to sign a Code of Conduct form prior to participating in any PeeWee event. Any rider, parent or guardian who exhibits unsportsmanlike conduct may be penalized or disqualified or have the rider for whom they are responsible penalized or disqualified. Abuse, either verbal or physical, of other riders, checkpoint personnel, the organizers, or the public, is grounds for disqualification. New England Trail Rider Association Parent and Youth Rider Code of Conduct The New England Trail Rider Association provides opportunities for youth riders to participate in off road motorcycle events. These events are designed to develop rider skills in a safe manner and teach sportsmanship as they are introduced to competitive riding. These events are put on completely by volunteers and are typically held on private land which we are generously allowed to use by landowners. Adhering to these rules will help assure that future riding opportunities for our youth are not jeopardized by the actions of a few. - There shall be absolutely no profanity anywhere on the event property.
- There shall be no unsportsmanlike comments by any spectator towards any rider at any time.
- Parents and spectators shall assist any rider that is in need of help at any time.
- Riders shall exhibit sportsmanlike conduct to fellow riders before, during, and after the event.
- There shall be no aggressive riding with the intent of deliberately injuring another rider.
- Scoring disputes shall be dealt with in a respectful manner; any yelling at, arguing with or otherwise disrespecting event staff will not be tolerated.
- Club members, event volunteers and landowners shall be treated with respect and courtesy at all times.
- Theft, vandalism, lettering or in any way damaging event property will not be tolerated, and should be reported immediately to event staff.
These rules apply to Riders, Parents/Guardians, Family Members and any guests brought to the event. - For the first infraction, the Rider/Parent will be given a verbal warning.
- For the second infraction, the Rider will be disqualified or ineligible to receive their award at that event.
- For the third infraction, the Rider will be disqualified for any remaining events of the season and be ineligible to receive year end awards.
These penalties may be enforced by the Trail Boss, Event referee, any Competition Committee member, the Youth or PeeWee Coordinators, and their decision shall be final. Parent Acknowledgement Youth Acknowledgement To all you parents that want your kids to learn the art of racing and trailriding while having fun doing so the Pee Wee's are for you. Tons of smiles and tons of friends to be had as well as the enjoyment of learning to RIP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
