A message from Rich Seymour;

Hey everyone,

Just a (not so) little update on the BRMA cleanup slated for Saturday, April 10 at 8:30 @ the exit 6A park and ride.

This event is the brain-trust of the Mt. Bike organization RINEMBA and was started by them about 13 years ago. The Water Resources Board joined forces with RINEMBA, not the other way around as I assumed. Basically, they have welcomed us to join forces with them and Paul and myself have been in contact and already made quite a bit of headway in having a fairly strong presence in the preliminary stages of this event. The PR that comes along with this day is far in excess of any that we could accomplish on our on, for the simple fact that the stage is already set and recognized by the BR Managing authorities.

In order for us to take full advantage of the opportunity before us, all we need to do is commit a sizable workforce for this one day. The NEMBA guys have alrady asked me to head up one of the demo/cleanup sites and I have exposed three well received sites that have been approved for cleanup. In short, we have been readily accepted into an activity that has the potential to bring only good press our way.

I would love to see 30 to 40 RR members show up for this cleanup. I think its imperative to make a good showing to "keep pace" with the "attaboys" that the RINEMBA is being credited with, especially now that they are a legit entity in Big River. Keep in mind that they have performed 13 years of service BEFORE receiving the privileged to use the area legally.

WHAT TO DO:  Show up by 8:30 (earlier would be better) and announce that you are there as a RR member. You will be asked if you want light duty, consisting of picking trash from designated locations, or heavy work which will be tires in many cases and some demo work at a residential property. You will be assigned a location, given a map and offered something for breakfast. There is also a lunch after the cleanup. You may or may not work with other RR members.

THINGS TO BRING; Gloves, though  they will be offered, you may have a heavier pair than is handed out. Tools such as a heavy fire pit type hook if anyone has one. A section of chain may come in handy for demo work. Light bolt cutters for snipping wire fence is going to be very handy. I am currently looking for someone with a demo saw. The chainsaw with abrasive wheel type. I will reach out to our contact Tim at Taylor rental for this and possible a skid steer. Also, a large pry bar for prying tires out of partially buried locals (a chain will be good here too). Announce what you have when you sign in and you will be sent to an appropriate site.

I know its a Saturday and there will NOT be any Sunday event to join in at. Expect to labor for about 4 hours. As stated, there will be food at the start and lunch at the Fire Station on Rt3, I believe. Come out and lets show these guys we mean business. Interact with the other user groups and help give the impression that we are a respectable group and not a bunch of Yahoos. It will be very tough for other users to be critical of us if they sweat shoulder to shoulder with one of our people for a day. Lets make our presence known and lets represent our club in a way that commands respect.

Rich
