The Senate Bill #2735 has passed.  The bill was successfully amended to take out dirtbike restrictions on age limits but left the hefty fines and also restricts the age on snowmobiles and quads to 14 yrs old.  The next step for the Bill is the House Ways and Means committee.  The Inside word from Netra's lobbyist John Bartley is that they plan on holding this Bill off till the next session of 2009-2010.  The Quad and snowmobile people have been lobbying hard to kill this Bill due to it's age limits.

Netra's former President Frank Frey and current President Jim Sherman are working hard to get a funding mechanism and to adopt the DCR working groups recommendations and have them written into the Bill.

In a nut shell this is dead for now so stay tuned for further news.

Sweet!  In a day and age of 4 dollar a gallon gas....it's about time they jacked up the the fines.  Kind of makes sense that they removed the age restrictions as well...afterall...if you're out to make tons of coin off fines ...why limit the fine $$ pool to just the older riders.

This legislation, passed by the Senate, will undoubtedly save the lives of many children and stem the tide of the preventable brain injuries and paralysis that have become commonplace in the trauma centers of this Commonwealth,” said Dr. Peter T. Masiakos, a trauma surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Wow, that is quite a statement.  Wonder what other sports cause brain injuries?  Football teams watch out your next...
