Great time yesterday. The sections were good and the loop was extremely fun, reminded me of mountain bike racing.

Awesome event. Loop was fun and the sections were a gas. Bummer I missed section 6 on loop two though. Got two cleans and a one on it otherwise. That 10 points hurt.

Is there a good solution for carrying your score card? Some sort of pouch-like thing that could attach to the bike? I had my card clipped to the throttle cable with one of those binder clips, yet somehow I managed to lose it somewhere on the loop. I didn't crash and didn't hit anything, but when I got back to the scorekeepers area it was gone. Didn't really matter for this event because I also bent my rear brake pedal to the point of having no rear brakes, and my body just overheated and ran out of steam, so I would have DNF'd anyway. Sorry about the thread hijack, but it did happen at Brimfield

Dan - was it poor loop marking or the heat? Are you sure it was section 6 you missed?? Sorry to hear about the mistake - you definately had some good rides there. Now if you would stop talking to the darn photographer while your in the middle of a section, then you would really shave some points...

BD98: Ive seen some paper and plastic sleeves taped to the number plate/forks  - I think they picked them up at staples. I just use duct tape around the brake cable and firmly attach it to the score card. Kinda of a pain to get off - but thats the whole point. Never lost one this way.

The clips are notorious for being unreliable - as you unfortunately found out.

Same here. I lost a card once with the clips and decided that was one too many. With the duct tape you can pre tape the cards and leave them in a convenient place at your pit. They stay on too.

Some people use a tether clip that goes around your neck. I definately dont like that idea for obvious reasons. Most world  and NATC guys do that.

I've tried the tape to bars and clip on bike methods but I like the lanyard tether clip. Most now have a breakaway piece so if it gets caught it simply comes off but you always know where your card is.

There were a few marking errors but it wasn't heinous. I was thinking of doing a bit on the website. A sort of loop marking for new trialsmasters type of thing. When I told the guy at 7 to punch me a 10 he commented that there were a few other guys who had missed 6.

The loop was short and normally I would have just banzai'd around to pick up 6 but I got there late and had a problem getting the bike started halfway through the first loop which cost me about 30 minutes so I knew I didn't have the time to go around again and finish. Gotta get up earlier. I also have to figure out what's causing the bike to not start. After I got it restarted it ran perfect all day. I thought I had it sorted with a carb cleaning but I'm thinking now I may have a blockage in the fuel system in either the tank vent or fuel petcock. I'll find it eventually.

I use a badge or "Bulldog" clip:   http://www.umei.com/lanyards/badge-clip/badge-clips-bc-100-12.htm . I wrap the vinyl strap around the front brake line, snap it closed and run a small plastic cable tie around the snap just to be safe. I Dremel serrated teeth on the jaws as they are too smooth to begin with. I then clamp down hard on a scorecard so the teeth bite in and fold the top of the card over slightly - never lost a card in several years with this method.

Glad everyone enjoyed the course, I was scoring a trials event for the first time and had a blast.  I just wanted to comment on how friendly the majority of the riders were, especially the younger guys.  I would say that more than half of the riders thanked us for scoring and really made eveyone feel appreciated.  The only unfortunate part of the whole thing is that I've spent that last three days looking for a trials bike....which I can't afford at this point!

Thats what happened to me. I attended an event just to spectate and kill some time on a sunday.  Someone I didnt even know let me try there bike. A month later I had a trials bike in the shop.

YOu dont have to spend a ton of $$ on a bike. You may consider a vintage bike. You still ride the same sections.

that's probably what i'll do.  plus there's a shop called rascals which is about a mile from the house, he must have 15-20 used trials bikes, i'll most likely start there.  i've been mtn. biking my whole life so i think it would probably come fairly quickly, i can def. see myself having one in the near future!

I highly recomend Rascal. I got my bike from him, and he has really been good to us since then. I know that he was thinking of getting 2 Montesa 315's from out west somewhere... That might be a good place to start. If not that, then yes, he does have plenty of other bikes. If he doesn't have the right bike, he can probably find it for you as quickly as anyone else. Definatly give him a call!

If it wasn't for the mother of all storms blowing up you could have probably taken a blast on several bikes for sale.
