The Massachusetts Senate is poised to pass SB 2735, the omnibus bill regulating recreation vehicles (see attached copy). The most obnoxious part is the proposed prohibition of no person under the age of 14 shall operate a snow or recreation vehicle (see Section 9). As you know, the current statute permits riders under 14 if they are directly supervised by an adult (see attached Ch. 90B). I do not have to tell you how this will impact NETRA members….
A new trail-use group, the Vermont Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Association (VORA) has been created. The stated objective is to mutually support shared goals of the member clubs and to help advance the individual sports and activities represented; ATV riders, motorcyclists (of several disciplines including Trail Riding, Enduro, MotoCross, Hare Scrambles and Observed Trials) and 4x4 / Jeep enthusiasts.
Gary Briere is the Director of Recreation for Mass dcr statewide and
came from Boston to speak at the Berkshire Trails Council meeting. He strongly urged if dcr is going to get any funding to move forward on improving ORV trails and building a new park that Mass residents must write, call, or email your state representative and your Governor on the following points:
You need to reinforce that ORV riding a safe, legal, and growing family sport that needs to recognized.
