Thanks!

I believe that Windorman has a 2003 Beta Rev 3 200 for $2495. I sold it to him last year, and it had new tires and plastic on it at the time. Could be worth looking into.

A 200 would be all a rookie would need for a couple seasons right?

I imagine that a 200 would have plenty of power for riding the novice lines.  I have only ridden a single trials event (Meriden) but the novice lines did not require huge power.  To me turning is the most important skill along with balance.  Learning to relax is key in trials, you can't brute force it with extra throttle, at least I can't.

I actually think that most riders in New England would be better riders on a 200. Much less hit than a 250 or 270 and they do not spin the tire as easily as a bigger bore bike.

I have a 2003 200 Rev-3 and its more bike than I know what to do with in the Novice class. As rbott said, most NETA riders would be fine with this bike. A few years ago at the VT National, Ray Peters (former Beta team rider) rode the expert lines on an 80cc kids bike to show that you really don't need tons of power to ride trials! It was pretty amazing to watch.

Ray Peters (former Beta team rider)

Ray still rides for Team Beta and is there #1 rider, just in the Expert class, not the Champ class anymore. He won a few Nationals this year on the new Beta Rev 4T.

I will call him, thanks. I am near him.

What do you think of this 250 Rev 3 for $2000? Back fender is riveted together and needs a fork guard.

This is a 2000 year model year right? That was the only year of inverted forks so I am told?

The riveted together rear fender is a common modification (once the owner sees the price of a new fender  ).

You should be able to get a newer Beta for just a little more money.

Some big changes happened in the years following the 2000:

In 2001 they switched back to conventional forks

In 2002 they changed the airbox to a top loading design that is much easier to do airfilter changes on. The 2000 and the 2001 were kind of a pain.

Every year they updated the suspension settings and some years updated the frame geometry. Every year they got a little better, easier to balance and maintain traction better. The major changes came in the 2005, 2006, and 2007 models.

Any questions about used Beta's, email or PM me.

Ryan

Thanks rbott, and thanks for the pm's guiding me to some used bikes! I really appreciate it. We just built a 4 bay equipment garage at work and figured I could ride indoors all winter after I get a bike. It has ventilation for welding and paint so I shouldn't die or anything......

Holy smokes! If I didn't already have my montesa I'd jump on this right now. Or if my son (that little ... err ... Big ungrateful know-it-all) showed any interest in trials, I woudn't think twice.

Kevin, are you aiming to buy a new trials bike, or have you decided to stick with the big bikes?
