Mike- Do we make the check out to NETRA?
and is the date May 10th? May 9th is a Friday. Thanks Jen

twistit200 -> RE: Youth Camp/Pee Wee Dealine (3/12/2008 8:36:03 PM)

Because there had seemed to be some confusion over the deadline for Youth Camp registration, our trail boss extended the deadline until April 15th. There will be a maximum of 100 Youth campers that will spend May 8th, 9th, and 10th participating. So register early to secure a spot. Checks should be made out to Nutmeg Scramblers.
The yoth camp promises to be jam packed with riding skill seminars, practicle seminars, and more time on the bikes than any of the participants have spent in one weekend. We have many of New Englands best riders lined up to present the seminars. Both Past and present.
Mike will be able to add info on the Pee Wee gig on Saturday the 9th.

Please post driving directions to the PeeWee Skills day on Saturday 5/10/08 in Colebrook, CT.
                                       Thanks Very Much, Greg Peet.

Throttlemonkey -> RE: Pee Wee Skills Day (5/1/2008 5:25:47 PM)

Colebrook is easy enough to find on mapquest but none of the posted literature, the NETRA voicemessage or the confirmation letter we recieved say WHERE in Colebrook so i can't help you Greg.  Mike/Pete, if you're out there can you help?

twistit200 -> RE: Pee Wee Skills Day (5/1/2008 5:55:11 PM)

Everyone that signed on for the youth camp prior to the deadline should have received the following letter. It gives location information, as well as an itinerary. Only one was returned undeliverable, and the address was promptly corrected and it was resent. It wasn't yours Throttle monkey...

The NETRA Youth Camp is only a few weeks away. I know it seems like forever since you first told your parents that you really wanted to go to camp for a weekend to learn everything you could from some of New Englands top off-road riders, but the time is nearly here. I know you’ve been waiting to hear just what it is you’ll be doing for the weekend, so here you go!

First of all, how do you find the Camp?  The address is 79 Fritz Road  Colebrook CT. Map quest will pull the address and directions right up. For those of you familiar with NETRA’s arrowing to events..the route will be arrowed from the intersection’s of Route 8 and Route 44 in Winsted CT. The arrows will be Red with a white background and have MSR on them.

Friday
Drop-off and registration: Begins at 3:00 pm on Friday May 9th. All campers should try to be at the Camp by 6:00pm. At 6:00 pm we will have a bit of chow and familiarize you with the camp layout and facilities. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay for the orientation meeting.

7:00 PM National Suspension service, and expert Northeast woods experts “Factory Connection” will host a seminar on proper suspension settings, including what “turning your clickers” does, and the importance of setting the sag on your bike. We will help to check and set sag on all participants bikes.
If time permits prior to lights out at 10:00 pm we will watch a dirt-bike movie.

Saturday
7:00 Am: Everyone up and eating a hearty healthy breakfast so that your bodies will be fueled for the mornings activities.
8:00 AM: A rotational schedule will be followed by each group. The schedule will rotate between seminars including.
Bike Maintenance, Nutrition and hydration, Proper riding Position, weighting the pegs.

12:00 : Lunch.
12:45: Gear up and get ready to ride.
1:00 Riders will follow group leaders into the camp seminar locations. The groups will be separated based on experience and bike size. We will have experience groups. They are.. Beginner, Novice, Amateur, and Expert. We are setting our locations up so that you will have plenty of riding time to get to and from seminar locations, as well as at least 45 minutes at each skill seminar. Once there our expert riders will brief and demonstrate techniques to negotiate the terrain that is typically found in the New England woods. The riding and skill seminars will include.
·        Seeing and choosing good “lines” through rocky areas.
·        Negotiating log’s that are frequently fallen across New England trails.
·        Climbing hills, and proper technique to get going again when stalled or stuck on a hill.
·        Traversing rutted or soft (muddy) areas.
·        Proper cornering technique through body position, and weighting the pegs.
6:00  Return to the camp area for dinner.
Clean up equipment, inspect equipment for maintenance needs from Saturday’s seminars.
Once all equipment is cleaned up, and maintenance finished we will have a camp bon fire, and tug of war. We will also have a movie playing in the Camp mess hall.
Once the movie is over it will be lights out. Sunday will be another full day of action, and seat time.
Sunday
8:00 Breakfast.
9:00 : Police camp area so that once we start the day’s riding activities we can keep riding to the conclusion of the camp.
10:00 AM C-Cycle suspension expert will be on hand to recheck everyone’s suspension set up, prior to beginning the day’s riding activities.
12:00 Lunch
12:45 Gear-up Sunday’s activities will include riders opportunities to return to Saturday’s skill seminar areas by request, so that riders will be able to sharpen skills they would like to work on.
2:00 Free ride with camp counselors sweeping and supervising. We will have 3 loops set up for the free ride. The loops will range from a 1.5 mile novice loop. A 3.5 mile Amateur loop, and the full blown 6.5 mile New England woods loop that will be sure to challenge our expert campers as well as some of our counselors.
3:30 Camp Graduation and awards ceremony.
We will guarantee that by the end of the weekend you will have improved your off-road riding skills. Made new and lasting friendships, and be totally pooped out!

Dirt Dad -> RE: Pee Wee Skills Day (5/1/2008 8:40:22 PM)

I sent my $30 check out to the Nutmeg Scramblers in Feb. for the Pee Wee Clinic, I didn't get any confirmation letter or notification.  You posted the youth camp schedule above, is there a schedule for the Pee Wee Clinic?, or different times?  Thanks.

hooty -> RE: Pee Wee Skills Day (5/1/2008 9:04:42 PM)

Since the DEP and greenies monitor this site can we modify the video clip to a more safety view point. If you haven't experienced yourself they will take that clip and use it against us.

Thanks for considering!

Out Thumped -> RE: Youth Camp/Pee Wee Deadline (6/16/2008 12:55:40 PM)

Guys,
I brought my 2 boys, 11 and 13 to the camp and was allowed to hang due to one mof my son's speciel needs.
I can not thank you guys for your time and understanding.
Also the kids had mucho opertunities to be little my son, nope, not a one. These kids are all special in a good way and all the parents should be proud.
Thanks to the camp things really turned around at home. He just finished his 4th day of riding in a row. That may seem normal, but I asure you it is not.
I was at the end of my physical leash and had an operation upon arrival home. My son's bike needed help and I could not hold a wrench by this point. They incorporated it ino the bike maintanance seminar and we had a NETRA Champ fix his bike. My son was beaming.
Well as you all know I can talk to much, so I will stop gushing now, but I mean it you guys and gals really helped my son on his path through life and his bike skills improved as a bonus.
Thanks,
OT
