Brian T. -> AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 10:49:34 AM)

Is there any youth riders planning on racing the AMA East Youth Harescramble Seires? . Looking to see if anyone is planning and if they want to travel together to the events this spring PA and NY. The OH round we will be spending the week prior to the race in that area riding.

Throttlemonkey -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 11:09:53 AM)

Brian, there is a good chance we will be driving to Ohio next Fri.  The folks who were planning on going with us bailed so it may just be Brendan and I.  We may also go to the ECEA event Saturday but it depends on the hockey playoff schedule (it's almost over!).  Depending on Ohio results will determine if we head to PA/NY, at least they are only 5-6 hrs away......

any idea on the local conditions out there for bike setup (mud, rocks, sand whoops ???????)

Hopefully we'll see you in Ohio if all goes well

Brian T. -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 12:12:09 PM)

I here the week is to be in 70's for temps. I raced the HVMC grounds few years back and only saw 1 rock the whole time, Tanner was on 50 at that time and had a real fast course with a few off cambers and roots. The thing that will get a rider there is the CLAY MUD very SLIPPERY, I remmeber hitting the brakes a few times and sliding across the ground. I can let you know more about the conditions once I get out there. You might want to rethink about the ECEA race this weekend and go out to Evansville raceway in Berwick PA, D-6 is racing there and this is the grounds of the second round of the series.We will be at Evansville on Sunday and then heading on out to Ohio.

Throttlemonkey -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 12:57:20 PM)

Berwick PA is the same distance as the ECEA race but on sun as opposed to Sat, his hockey schedule will probably dictate so we'll see what happens.  I just wanted to get him to another event before Ohio, the kids from the south get to ride all year!  We've just had one HS so far and I can guarantee no other races will be like the one at demoranville's last week!  Gordie wants to have one of the AMA youth nationals next year, kids from down south are in for a rude awakening if he does!! :)

BTW, what is Berwick like?  The website just shows MX track picks.  How many kids go to D-6, is it as big as ECEA?

Bostonjake1240 -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 4:07:09 PM)

We have raced the VCHSS series a few years back. Great series, fast riders, but the courses are a little narrower then ours. Joe was amazed that they built bridges over the mud sections, come to think of it, Joe wished they built a bridge at mile 8 last week!! 30 minutes stuck in the hole...[:D]

We have the AMA kids Nat'l for next year. Next year we will be doing more travel. Not going to commit to any one series. Hit a few NECC, AGP, ECEA, and VCHSS races. Let us know what you think of this series Brian and Bill....we might follow you to a few in PA and Ga.

Throttlemonkey -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 4:49:01 PM)

Brendan 'traded' a 16 event Jr enduro series for a 4 event national HS series, they are farther away but I think I still end up ahead [sm=confused.gif] we may still do a few Jr enduros as time allows.  We'll only hit the GA event in the fall if he is doing well in the series, 18 hrs is just too much!

Brian T. -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 5:34:43 PM)

We raced Berwick 2yrs. ago with ECEA. Lots of mud grass track ,rocky and rooty, off camber switchback hills. The mx track is small and mostly natural terrian nothing dangerous.It's hard to say about the number of riders due to ECEA racing.But we are going to get time on the property to be ready for round 2 (rider and bike setup). We are planning on the first 3 rounds and looking at the results also to see if we will do GA. and WI. Tanner has been racing MX and some offroad, he keeps us real busy. this month and next are crazy. The next week alone are PA. this weekend OH. the next on Saturday then overnite drive to MA. for Sunday for the LL qualifier for 85 Mod. class. He has already qualified for stock class did that in March in Maryland, missed Mod. class by 2 postions ( he should have ridden harder to save me time and $) Right!). Either way this weekend will be good for the riders from up here just to be racing and banging bars and yes when next year comes and NE gets a youth Nat'l their in for a treat.I remember Fred Andrews one lap and "I Will Never Ever Ride This ------ Place Again"

Throttlemonkey -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/8/2008 9:05:37 PM)

"I Will Never Ever Ride This ------ Place Again"

That was when it was dry!  Last week the kids rode the full national loop covered in mud!!!

Wisconsin!!!!!  That wasn't on the schedule last time I looked!!!

Oh well, I have a cousin in WI that I have been meaning to visit for the last 15 yrs......

Rhinelander WI, 20 hrs......I'm starting to hope Brendan doesn't do so well in the first few rounds....

Dirt Dad -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/12/2008 9:33:29 AM)

For the May 3rd race in Pa., It looks like they will use the MX track and I assume run the kids into the wooded area around the track?

Throttlemonkey -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L- Rnd 1 report (4/20/2008 7:03:07 PM)

Well, we were expecting a GNCC type atmosphere/turnout but to be honest we have more kids show up at our Hare Scrambles!  Only 6 kids in Brendan's class, four locals and Grant Baylor, the GNCC points leader.  Needless to say Brendan was second, Baylor was flying and the four locals weren't even in the same zip code....  Second place ponts are still good all things considered.  The course was hard packed clay, not a rock on it, it took a while for the New Englaners to get used to it!  Tanner Thomas was fourth in the 12-15 85 class and Eden Netelkos lapped the only other girl, possibly twice....

12 hrs down Fri wasn't too bad but I tried to shoot back last night, hvy rain slowed us down and I had to take a power nap when I got to the CT border at 5 AM.  I need agood night sleep tonoght!

The PA race in two weeks is only 5 hrs away, that's gonna seem like my backyard!

Brian T. -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L- Rnd 1 report (4/21/2008 11:12:53 AM)

Dirt Dad the mx track pictures you see on the Evansville web site are of the supercross track, it is not used in the haresrambles. The motocross track is used and it is a natural  track on a side of a hill.

Throttlemonkey -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L- Rnd 1 report (4/21/2008 1:49:41 PM)

Brian, how was your drive?  Did you make it to Southwick in time?  How did Tanner do?

BTW, when was the last time anyone raced a NETRA Harescramble on trails that looked like this!!!!

Brian T. -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES (4/21/2008 4:00:46 PM)

Bill we made it to Southwick around 6am and boy was I beat. Tanner felt a little sore, do to the get off on the steep hill and the 42mile 2hr and 15min race. He looked real good in practice and said he was up to racing. The first moto was going real well for him running in 6th right on 5th's rear wheel,needing to finish in the top 8 with 4 laps to go. Then the rider in 7th decided to make a stupid move and t-boned Tan in the rear sent him into a highside and it threw him off the bike and knocked the wind out of him. After sitting on the side for 2 laps with the medical staff he remounted to finish the moto ( he didn't want a DNF ). When he is pissed, boy can fly. He brusied his ribs on the right side, so he going to rest a couple days before getting back on the bike, maybe wed or thurs. Oh and the 7th place rider oh yes he got just what he deserved the next corner his bike shut off and he had to push it off the track and take a DNF.

Throttlemonkey -> RE: AMA East YOUTH Nat'L SERIES - RD #2 (5/5/2008 10:43:37 AM)

Round 2 was this weekend in Berwick PA, turnout was a little better in the Mini Heat with some of the top ECEA kids showing up.  There were only TWO 50 riders!!!  It was a great opportunity for someone to get a 4' trophy if they made the trip!

Tanner Thomas had a very solid ride and easily won the 12-15 class and may be in the points lead.  Eden Netelkos won the girls class again and leads that class.  Brendan finished third in the 7-11 class right behind the ECEA points leader, Brendan was ahead of him until the 1/2 way point when another rider crahed in fron of him on a big hill, when he went back to the bottom to start over he was passed and just couldn't catch back up.  Grant Baylor the GNCC point leader walked away with the win again, man is that kid fast!!

The course was pretty much a moto track and what they called a grass track was really gravel, only about 1 mile in the woods.  All the Southerners whined about the course while on the podium, the three New Englanders all thought it was easy!

RD 3 is in two weeks in NY, back to back with CATRA.  This is a regular WYNOA event so there should be a pretty good turnout, we'll see how it goes from there.
