Your spot on.  Trials takes patience and precision, getting the adrenaline going on the first loop doesn't work out well.  I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the event.

Excellent event - Novice sections were spot-on.

Do you think the lack of lines had something to do with telling everyone they could start at any section? I was expecting long lines with the short loop. How many riders where there?

Absolutely...Long loops dont help at all. It may separate the fast riders from the slower ones by a minute(probably half that) at most in between sections.

Status: offline 		agreed,I started at section 3 with that nice cutoff back to the pits at section 4,I knew I would have a quick day,got in about 1pm after 5 loops,well six if you count the extra loop after somehow skipping seven and eight and having to go around again pretty sure Dan was a little confused when I was bushwacking around his section to get back on trail!

Status: offline 		I also saw a few bikes out there with no numbers at all?? names and class,but no numbers,is this ok? because my plate would look way better with my name in bigger letters,but the number takes up so much room!

Status: offline 		Steve, Thanks. WE had 63 jr/nov/ex  and 8 youth/beginner. I have allways thought starting where you want helped the lines. I know Dan thinks so to . It seemd to work Sunday.

Status: offline 		fury1: Iam glad the short loop helped you. I had a few people fix there plates befor the event. One guy I sent back 3 times befor he got it right. I am sure I missed some. The plate just makes it easer for the checkers, they can see what line will be riden

Status: offline 		I don't know if any one noticed, that in the Novice sections there was only one Jr split, that was in sec 5.

It must have been ok, havent heard any thing. YET. So do we really need a jr split???
They did ok at Meriden to with no splits.

Bill,

Maybe....

I heard from a junior that the sections were great and that split wasnt even that bad...maybe not even needed. I think what it comes down to, you laid out very tight and technical sections that were not that dangerous which is perfect! Some clubs may not have that luxury though due to the terrain thats available. It also comes down to experience laying out a section. Which being as old as you are you have lots of that!

Bmac explicitly told people to take advantage of it, and it worked really well at this event. The lines were much shorter than at Meriden. It can be scientifically proven that starting in different sections is by far the most effective way to alleviate congestion. It is called queueing theory. I would suggest that it should be standard operating procedure, and it should be encouraged.

You could take this one step further and randomly assign riders to start at a particular section, though I can see people objecting to starting on the most difficult section. There would also need to be time compensation for those who don't start in section 1 because they have to ride part of an extra loop to turn in their last loop card, which doesn't really matter unless you're running out of time. Having said all this, I suspect this may have been thought of and/or tried before. All in all the present self-choice system is probably best.
