I heard through the grapevine that loop riding and practice is not allowed on the Saturday before the event in RI, is there any truth to that?

Immediately after the riders meeting on Sunday, there was an announcement stating just that... No insurance for Saturday, there for no riding.

Rick and all NEDB Trials riders!
        There will be camping at the Berry Farm Saturday nite. But there will be NO rideing Saturday. It is a nice loop and good walking so you can look at the sections.
        I will be there all day Saturday so stop and say hi. This is PRIVATE land, so PLEASE respect the NO rideing.

Since we are talking about the event at Rhode Island....
 
I will be running the Youth classes for the event on Sunday. If you would like to give your son/daughter a chance to see what its like riding a trials event come on down. The sections will be very easy and I am sure they will have a blast. Its an opportunity for you to be with your child during the whole competition. Its all in one small area so you will not need a bike and you wont have to walk throghout the whole forest to see them.
 
A day pass is 5$, but a new NETA membership is just $10. Cost for the event is $25 and AMA membership is required. start time is 10am but you should be there no later than 9:15...or earlier. I will walk each section with and show them the basics of riding a trials event. The rules are below.
 
Any questions please just shoot me a PM. I would love to see a decent turnout for the kids. See you there on the 20th!
 
 
 
Youth Classes should be held at every NETA event. If some or all of the Youth
Classes will not be held the event organizer shall advertise well in advance
that the Youth Classes will not be held so that riders may plan accordingly.
All Youth Classes shall be run in specially designated sections that are very
easy in an open and “flat” area. The “Loop” for this class should be separate
from the adult classes. The motorcycles used in this class are not suitable for
more difficult terrain.
The event Trialsmaster should designate a Youth Trials master to setup and
assist the Youth riders. The duties of the Youth Trialsmaster may include
section setup and coordinating and checking the Youth riders throughout the
Youth event.
Youth Classes shall start one (1) hour earlier than the adult classes. Youth
riders riding in the Beginner and Junior classes will start at the time
designated by the Trialsmaster, generally at the same time as the adult
classes.
Youth Classes shall be split into different groups based on their ability, the
line they will ride will identify each different group. The Youth Trialsmaster
will designate the line to be ridden on the day of the event.
All Youth Class riders must be riding properly prepaired motorcycles that are
of an appropriate size for the rider. It is the responsibility of the youth
riders parent or guardian to see that the rider has the proper apparel and
appropriate size motorcycle.
Below is a description of Youth Class A and B line:
Youth A:
This line will be more difficult than the Youth Line 4 but should continue with
the theme of open turns and very small or no obstacles.
The Youth Trialsmaster for the event will determine the riders who will ride
this line.
Youth B:
This line will be the easiest line designed so that small non trials type
motorcycles with very young and possibly inexperienced riders will be able to
negotiate the section. It is recommended that any rides 8 years old or
younger ride their first event in this class.
The Youth Trialsmaster for the event will determine the riders who will ride
this line.

That’s a bummer, takes away one of our motivations for making the long trek (5-1/2 hours) down. I always look forward to getting some practice time in the day before an event especially this time of the year. Up here (Vermont) we still haven’t been able to get any real good riding time in. The ground is still icy just under the surface making traction difficult and tricky. Much of the northern facing terrain is still covered in snow. I was hoping to ride this weekend but the forecast is temps in the 40s and pouring rain. That means mud season is beginning and that is less fun than the ice.
Hopefully, we'll decide to come down. I really enjoy your events as the sections are always spot on for the each class.

Not a real big deal Bill, every club has got to make decisions based on their own set of circumstances, pefectly understandable. I'm just glad you guys are able to put on an event. It's a great location and a fun event. Not to mention an opportunity for us ex-Rhode Islanders to get some good seafood while we are down there. I hope to make it, but not sure yet.

I encourage everyone who has not been to this event before to go, especially if you are new to the sport. It will be well worth your time and you'll have a great time.

Totaly off topic but if we are talking about berries at trials events the new Maine event is the place to be. The blueberries in the field were spectacular. Almost seemed a sin to be riding over them for two days.

Ah the blueberries in Arundel were spectacular. Judy and I spent the better part of the time we were supposed to be working on the event picking berries. North Kingston isn't called the berry farm for no reason. I definately have to go to Maine this year now that I know there's free food in the woods.

      Maybe you can talk that OLD BAT you hange with to come down Saturday afternoon any way. Would mean only 5 1/2 hrs each day.
      Already have the tire ring and firewood in place for a campfire. ????

Oh great! I have to listen to the OLD BAT complain all night, in front of the campfire, about his aches, pains and handicaps. Sounds like a night I'm looking forward too. Good thing he doesn't view this site too often.

We both have complications in our schedule for this weekend, if we can get them sorted out we'll be there. We're starting to get the riding fever now that the weather is finally warming up a bit here so our motivation is a little higher to make the trip. Actually got on my bike for the first time this year over the weekend (yes, while it was snowing). Temps are supposed to be in the 60s the rest of this week so hopefully I can myself tuned up for the season.

Will there be any vendors selling race fuel at this event? I'd like to get my hands on some VP C10 to try. Or at least a bit of C12 to replenish my dwindling supplies.

I've been running the Cam2 (Sunoco 110) from Haffner's 73 Plaistow Road, Haverhill, Mass. You can get it from the pump and it's considerably cheaper then VP ($6.51 Gal a few weeks ago) though I don't think it burns as clean. The race gas pump is the center pump of the cluster furthest from the road.

I just picked up some Aviation Fuel, 100 oct. Low Lead. $ 4.95 per gal.

I got it at the air port in warwick.  ( T.F. Green )

Good job on the event. Sections were tight and fun!! The loop was great, short and perfect for both riders and spectating. Apparantly, not short enough for me, as I was nabbed by the loop police. I thought they were going to fine me and impound my bike, but they lightened up and all ended well.
btw... someone should kidnap that guy that runs registration and force him to do all the events!! Everyone of the events  that I attend (admittedly not many) he does an efficient job. Often a job overlooked, so heres a pat on the back.

I had a good time at the event, the weather was great and the check workers were encouraging.  It was my second event and tougher than the one I did in Meriden the end of last year.  If I could learn to relax on the first loop (much worse score than other loops) I would do a lot better overall.  I also realized that I need to learn to turn tighter and just practice turning instead of rocks and hits.

Bmac and RITC, thanks for putting on a great event. I think I won the "most style points for crashing" once again, and reaffirmed that elbow guards and other protection are priceless. I had a great time, and it was also nice to put some faces with the names here.
