My daughter and I were coming by HopEv area so we stopped and took a hike in on the trail were the new bridge was built.
Conditions look very good for the trails opening on May 23 as the signs indicate.

Way drier than last year...who knows, if we don't get any heavy rains they may open it early!

Now you did it.  Here come the flooding rains....

I have the day before that off.... hmmm.. I think I'm gonna switch my days off that week!

Cant wait.....never looked forward to the river loop so much!

jimmcc -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/21/2008 8:16:14 PM)

Hopefully "Open May 23rd" means just that...I'll be there at 6am on Friday, May 23rd...anyone else?...Johnny, you going to have the new bike for then?

ktm250rider -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/21/2008 9:11:12 PM)

They never open early.

jimmcc -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/21/2008 9:51:01 PM)

Hey...I can dream, can't I?

ktm250rider -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/22/2008 6:08:08 AM)

Actually, it might be a good time to start clearing the trails.

jimmcc -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/22/2008 10:08:14 AM)

You're right...there was a lot of debris from the winter...branches, etc.

It's great weather to walk through and do some clearing.

Johnny1Eye -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/22/2008 5:40:04 PM)

Was on the phone with Mason's Racing, about 2 hours ago.  6am!... sounds good to me!  Sit on my butt all winter, and then jump on a bike with way more go juice than what I have been riding for 9 years.....  Someone better get those trees outa my way!

I moved back just in time didn't I. I haven't been to opening weekend in a number of years.

SQUERACING -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/25/2008 4:18:37 PM)

Mud Season and the opening of Hop-Ev is by State Statue, nothing to do with actual conditions.
One size fits all...May 23rd.

Johnny1Eye -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/25/2008 5:01:09 PM)

Does mud season include foot traffic?  Was thinking of hiking out there to clear whatever crap/blowdowns ended up on the trails.

mit gas gas -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/25/2008 7:42:58 PM)

You are ok walking the trails anytime you want.
This weekend should be a great time to do so, as the bugs aren't out in force yet.  I enjoy snowshoing on BT and the River loop.  It is very peaceful and quiet. It is easy to cut face slappers then because you are a couple feet higher up!

too many bikes mike -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/25/2008 8:02:30 PM)

worked deep in the woods of sandown today....believe me, the black flies are out!

LumpyBoy -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/25/2008 10:33:45 PM)

So when does it more typically open?  June?

Johnny1Eye -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/25/2008 10:59:02 PM)

The floods, from the past couple years, delayed the opening.  It normally opens May 23.

LumpyBoy -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/26/2008 10:17:29 AM)

Seems like either last year or the year before it opened closer to July b/c of the floods.

skid Jackson -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/26/2008 10:51:03 PM)

last year it opened in july, year before that was after laborday becuase of the floods

LumpyBoy -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/27/2008 9:58:46 AM)

thx.  you mean memorial day?

Johnny1Eye -> RE: HopEv conditions (4/27/2008 11:05:50 AM)

No he means Laborday!  That would have been my first day back on a bike in 2 years. Instead I spent 3 years off.
