NETA160 -> TN WW (4/28/2008 8:31:26 PM)

Just got back...A few comments about the event.

Saturday, and the days preceding, were dry making for ample traction.  This led to low scores for the Pro class.  Fuji dropped 1 point on his first loop.  He was on fire Saturday.  All sections had one or more "beyond human" obtacles but on average they were not very technical.

However, with the rain on Sunday it didn't need to be technical to take tons of points.  There was very little traction--Typical TTC grease.  Many of the sections were either cleans or 5s.  Almost everyone punched a 5 on section 9.  All the top Pros showed up together, spent all of 20 seconds looking and punched a 5.  It was really nasty.

Raga looked pretty bad Saturday and Sunday--His timing was off, lack of drive, etc.  Bou was consistent, very precise, extra slow in the slow spots and extra throttle in the "gas it" spots.  Fuji looked really good too with a 1st on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday.  Douggie is riding "mid pack" these days.  Obvious mistakes and not-so-pretty cashes are getting more common for him.  He is still too good to not compete at the Pro level.

Douggie's Beta had a special shock with an external resovoir, different triple trees, 4T clutch and modified cases to fit it, after market titanium exhaust, aftermarket pegs, and it was bored out to a 290.  Otherwise it looked stock.

The Montesas didn't have much different than what I have seen in the past world rounds...but nothing like we can buy.

I didn't see any 2-stroke Scorpas in the Junior or Pro classes but there were several 4 strokes.  Cabestany's 4 stroke had huge power.  It really screamed and seemed more nimble than the 4 strokes the lower classman were riding.

Raga's bike didn't look much different besides the special metal in the frame.

As usual, a great time.  I am already planning a trip in to next years event in Colorado if it is approved.

Tim

Anyone on the Beta 4 stroke?

NETA160 -> RE: TN WW (4/29/2008 10:54:07 AM)

I didn't see any Beta 4Ts.

Didn't notice Raga's lack of a gas cap then Tim? Talk about strange looking... I think I have a picture that I can post later. Found out that it was just a cover with a half liter, carbon fiber tank underneath. The filler wasn't even threaded. It had a stopper held in place by the cover. People were joking that if they put helium in the tires the minders would have to hold the bike to keep it from floating away. They are supposed to be doing a special run of 150 tubular frame bikes as Raga Replicas later this year. I didn't hear whether the tank would make it into production or not.

NETA160 -> RE: TN WW (4/29/2008 12:06:28 PM)

I watched a mechanic remove the gas cover to expose the little tank beneath.  Two years ago it looked like a regular tank but it wasn't--It only held a very small amount of gas then too.

Links to pictures of Raga's bike. Sorry for the poor quality.

Tim
I heard Fuji and Bou were the only ones to try it. What section of TTC was this section? To make those other cats punch out it must have been insane!

Just got back last night - long drive in the rain.

Heres a few pics of some of the action and the bikes (raga's gas tank under the cover) at this link. The photos dont do the sections any justice - they were really just unbeliveable.

I wonder what this weighs? and is that a Montesa rear rim?

laser1 -> RE: TN WW (4/29/2008 5:26:41 PM)

D.I.D. Makes the rim I believe.

Ragas bike looks great - love that red frame. I here it weights in the low 60's (Kg) which would seem about right (aprox 135 lbs).  Who knows though - lots of crazy numbers floating around. One guy said 125lbs! I dont see that.

No GG 4T to test ride - Dale didnt get one from the factory yet.
The Raga replicas should start shipping about now. (Europe gets the 1st batch - We get them late may/early june)

Fuji's pit bike is cool - I want one.

The Beta long ride kit is really nice - will probably be available in black as well as gray. Ron said the one on the 4t bike (in the photos) was the wrong version (made for the 2t) and didnt fit as good as the correct model does.

Beta will probably not make a production 300 (stay as a kit) as the 250 has already gone through homologation.

Cabastany's Sherco sounds and looks (based on the rooster tail going up the big hills) very, very powerfull. Impressive to watch.

When Fuji won on Saturday, he skyed off the last rock, bounced once and did a huge 180 in the air while pumping his fist at the same time. nothin to it.....(he litterally blew every one else away on saturday - he made tremendous saves throughout the day and fought off everything with fierce determination. He almost ran over his minder one time (section 4) when he got off line in the air.

I was watching one of the young JST team riders and he was setting up on section #2 at the base of the slippery exit. Many of the previous youths didnt make it and slid down or really struggled.The JST kid seemed to be waiting for his minder to get on the rock and spot him, when Jordi stopped the minder from climbing up with one hand and pointed up the rock and yelled "right up!" (in english not spanish) at the kid. He did. Kid was good. (The kid had plenty of time left - just needed some motivation)

A buddy of mine was a minder (minders helper really) for Mark Frexia. Mark gave him a full Jitsie outfit (pants/shirt/gloves) for his efforts/help. NICE.

The only autograph on my sons cap you can read is Pat Smage. All the others are a total scribble. The kids had a blast getting them from all the riders. Everyone was very approachable and pleasant even when busy getting ready.

I knew Tony Bou was good - but DAM. That guy is amazing.  Im impressed. The Montesa team really kicked some butt.

thats some awesome coverage. I could watch those videos all night.

STEVEC -> RE: TN WW (5/5/2008 10:38:30 AM)

Trebor,

Great shots - JA9K9899 (Fuji) could be used in a Montesa promotion. Talk about tire defelction! JA9K9896 (BOU) is not too shabby either. I couldn't beleive they could get up that hit when I first saw it - it had to be at least 10 feet tall with no run-up...

laser1 -> RE: TN WW (5/5/2008 11:28:53 AM)

Glad you like them Steve - I dont think you can get a larger contact patch than Fuji did on that Rock.

Is that the hit you and I were talking about yesterday?

Thats crazy!

bmac -> RE: TN WW (5/5/2008 4:29:31 PM)

Trebor:
          GOOD JOB, I'm glad I didn't go down, you have it all right here thanks.
It looked like Fuji's tire went around his rim, I wonder how the tire stayed on the rim.

Steve you are right he should be in a PROMO for that.

motofire -> RE: TN WW (5/5/2008 4:30:53 PM)

1:10 in...Youre kidding me! Might as well be on ice.
