Hi,  Is there any information available on the July 26th and 27th Thrill and Chill Dual Sport and Turkey Run?

I only need simple stuff like where is the start/finish?  Any hotels reccomended?

I just need to do some early planning.  Thanks.

Great, thank you.  I looked all over the NETRA site before posting here and couldn't find this type of info.  Oh well.

Hello, Me again ... can any of you reccomend a place to stay near by?  I will be coming in from upstate NY and my past experiences in RI (soccer tournaments) saw hotels get booked very early for the summer months.  I need a hotel/motel that doesn't mind a truck/trailer parked in their lot and is sort of close to the start/finish.  Thanks.

There is a Super 8 motel at exit 6 (same as the event will be arrowed from), a few places (some very nice) at exit 8, one (a little rough) at exit 3, but all are within 15mins of the start. Camping is available at the start on Saturday night only and we are encouraging people to stay there 'cause this event should be a party all weekend. With a Saturday afternoon ride, steakfry, and kick ass band, camping over with your buddies (new and old) should fit right in. It is primitive camping only, though. In a hayfield.

I didn't list a bunch of motels but you can search them under West Greenwich, RI 02817 for more options.

http://www.netra.org/public/schedule/4#153 for info

As soon as the NETRA website gets our flyer and info sheet back up everything should be at the web address I gave you along with the entry form (the only thing there now).

Thanks for asking.

Oh, if need be, riders should be able to leave their trailers at the start (someone from the club as well as riders will be there) if they choose to. NO gaurantees, no theft insurance, but probably alot safer than outside a motel room. ANYONE WHO SHOWS UP ON SATURDAY MUST DO SO BY 8PM AND PAY THE WEEKEND PRICE!

OK, thanks I found a couple hotel/motels.  Primative camping isn't my style ... but "party all weekend" I can do with riding in between :-)

Next question.  I am driving in from NY and want to get in as much riding in as possible.  I am definitely doing the Turkey Run on both days.

My question is ... can I also do the 40 mile Dual Sport loop on Saturday prior to the 10 miles Turkey Run loop?  Or is this a dumb idea?

Ross,

Actually, this very question is covered in our flyer (soon to be re-listed on our info page, I hope) and the answer is yes. The dualsport is to kick off about 1PM with an easy ride that brings you by the local bike shop (Razee's) for a small vintage bike display (the owner has some great stuff) and coffee and donuts (or something more suitable to the afternoon) and you could be back for the opening of the turkey run loop at or shortly after 4PM. Should be 8 to 10 miles and can be ridden until 6:30 or so.

One note;

The dualsport is pretty well suited to big bikes and buzzing into town on your "barely legal" enduro bike is going to be frowned upon. No idea what you ride- just a side note so you and others can plan accordingly. Likewise, the Saturday TR loop could be ridden with a typical dualsport bike, though a Vstrom, BMW, Cagiva, etc better have a healthy rider aboard.

That's what it sounded like from the flyer, thanks for confirming this Rich.

Hmmmmmm ... I have brand new 2008 Yamaha WR250R ... with a few mods ... and it is definitely street legal.  And I am not worried about keeping up with the "big bikes" ;-)  This should be a lot of fun.  Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Nice ride! That bike makes you the perfect candidate to ride both loops Saturday.

Heres a thought. Not sure if it would apply to anyone but I thought of this the other day. Since the DS loop and TR loop intersect for lunch, its possible for someone with just such a bike to ride out on one course and back on the other. Maybe to do the mileage but not get so pounded by doing the entire TR loop. Just a thought.

Interesting ... I think I would want to try to do the whole Turkey Run loop.

But, knowing there is a bail out option to come back on the Dual Sport loop in case it's too damn hot and/or rough for an old guy like me is good to hear :-)

Ross,

After the BTR ride I would say definately ride the Turkey Run loop at our event. It will focus on as much trail as we can give with roads to transfer between sections.

I've decided to gear the TR loop towards big DS bikes (real ones like the XRLs, KLR, DRS) and hearty souls on adventure bikes. The hero sections are for guys wanting a little more technical riding like some easy to moderate enduro terrain, for high fender bikes only! In past years our TR has always been close to what our enduro runs terainwise and will continue to be, except in a toned down for. Tougher sections will be optional. We may loose some of the enduro crowd but at 52 riders last year I don't feel they make up a big contingent.

The Dualsport will be geared to the BIG bike crowd with a minimum of off road sections and they will, of course, be optional. High fender bikes and aggresive riders will find this loop too lacking of tech. terrain.

Rich,  I think it's good you posted on the ADVrider forums about the Thrill & Chill.  Should help advertize your event and get more participation.

I suggest you also post over at the ThumperTalk Northeast forum for the same reason.  http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=51

Ross

PS - Sorry I missed buying you a beer before you had to leave Sunday.  I will catch you for one in July.

Don't sweat the beer. I'll definately catch you at the T&C. I was just looking on TT last night. Good advice. Also thinking maybe one of the KLR sites. ADV is the big one by the looks. Fun ride Sunday, no? Gives us something to shoot for. I'm going to push to get the word out as we get closer. Thanks for your input and suuport.

Looks like they broke this link or removed the flyer from the NETRA website.
