4stroke -> trials on a stock dual sport? (6/26/2008 9:14:43 PM)

as dumb as this sounds, is there anywhere i could run my stock klr 250 on a trials course? I just want to give it a try, and i love the idea of having one bike that can "do it all"

I don't think that bike can turn tight enough for the novice sections that I have seen so running in a NETA event would be tough and require trials tires.  I know that bike is small but you need to be able to turn 180 within 5-6 feet.  You can always make your own trials sections and have fun.  My club KPTR has a club enduro trials event every year where they make big bike friendly trials sections.  The event is always a blast.

Here's the last guy that tried that. I believe he's from the Hoot Owls.

FYI, there is a trials event in Brimfield, MA this Sunday, if you want to see what it is all about.  And I'm sure there will be a few trials bikes for sale.  There are also a couple for sale here on NEDB.  See http://www.newenglandtrials.org/ for details.

When you post a pic in a thread 8.7kb is way too small, try 187kb next time.[;)]

4stroke:    Rule book
I  Eligibility: Any person who has a reasonably prepared  " TRIALS " motorcycle may enter an NETA sanctioned trials competition.

Tires: Only trials type tires are permitted for use in any regular NETA classes.
Non-trials type tires may be used for Youth classes, unless prohibited by land use rules.

Check out the NETA web rule book for more info.

Other than a few riders at the WTC level, I doubt any mere mortals could ride a real trials section on a KLR.

Your quest for a 1 bike does it all solution is being taken up by a few of the trials manufacturers. Scorpa has made long ride kits to make there "trials" bike more trail worthy for a few years now and recently Beta has added a extra large capacity tank/enduro seat combo as a bolt on for there REV model trials bikes. I think these bikes would be very competative in a really nasty, tight, rocky new england enduro. They would probably get smoked in the fast and open events out west though. Some of the recent success in the enduro-cross and last man standing type events is starting to make people take notice of some of the talented riders and capable machines in trials.

See some of the scorpa offerings here: www.scorpausa.com
IMO - the addition of programable fuel injection will give these bikes even wider capability.

8.7kb does make the bike look small doesn't it...

no doubt, i was just wondering about the feasibility of me giving it a try, i've always thought a trial bike would be great for me, but they always seemed to specialized (gearing and fuel capacity), but i have noticed that they've been working on improving that!

Hey 4 Stroke,
Have you been to an Enduro lately! It can be like an elongated trials event in some sections.

Welcome aboard the trials scene!

danwilms -> RE: trials on a stock dual sport? (6/30/2008 10:00:34 PM)

Yeah and some of the trials are looking like an enduro. Ahem.
