Yes, we race at Pomfret and Woodstock. It's our home track and we race for points there. We used to travel around, but my rig gets 8 to the gallon, so we stay close to home now.
I'm not disagreeing with motohead, but the main reason I would have liked my daughter to choose trials over the kart was because trials is so inexpensive. Karting is the most expensive form of racing I've ever been involved with. And that is yet another reason why attendance is down. There are ways regional tracks are getting attendance back up, but this is a trials forum, not a karting forum. However, when you do both you tend to compare what's going on in each.

Its was my intention to say that buying 5 new or used for that matter trials bikes for my 4 ten year old children ,along with my 8 year old child would be pricey , compared to used xr 80's /100's . This would be especially true if they became uninterested in the sport . That was my relevance to the expensive part of the sport. But this is a special situation that most people don't have .

I am thinking that if gas prices continue to drop, and if the economy rebounds enough to put people back to work , it should help . RI unemployment is at an all time high ,right now and I am sure this will have a major effect on all recreational events . Hopefully this will straiten out after the elections ! I also think that entry level , classes would benefit the sport . It would be nice to have a class day to teach new people th rules of the coarse and the layout of a section . This would help all newbies ,to know what to expect , when they get out on the coarse for the first time . I think mentors could be the key . After all the only question that is a dumb question , is the one thats never asked .

Tonyc:
I just heard back from Dan Bristol. He and his sons rode a couple years back. Dan tells me that his sons are off to college, he fell at work and broke his back, doing better now. Dan also said that the loop and the sections were right on. Dan rode Sen. B and his sons Novice.

So far the people I have contacted, have said they have someting else to do, (Dans back) NOT because the loop or sections were hard.

Bill, here is some of the data I have been gathering. Your information is good information and tells us that for the most part, there are alot of other reasons why attendance isn't growing..I say growing, because I've being doing quite abit of data analysis myself on overall attendance averages and class sizes, etc..The average number of total riders per event looks like this.. 2005(56), 2006(73), 2007(61), 2008(63)..so you can see that 2006 was our banner year of the past 4yrs, but we actually grew a couple of riders per event from 2007 to 2008. What is interesting is you have spoken to 11 riders who aren't riding anymore, I wonder if they rode in 2006, as the difference from 2006 to 2007 was a loss of 12 riders on avg..Another interesting fact, is that Senior A and Senior B classes grew on avg from 2007 to 2008, on avg Sr A is up by 4 and Sr B is up by 2, Novice class dropped in avg riders from 2007(8) to 2008(3), Also Advanced dropped from 2006(12) to 2007/2008(6).
