We just need to get someone on these panels. I have been trying to get on these panels for a number of years under the heading of representing the Recreational Trail Riders who out number the Racers (NETRA) by over 10 to 1. We have almost 30,000 registered ORVs in MAss and they guess that there is at least another 60,000 unregistered ORVs. I have been in direct contact with the MAss DCRs Gary Briere for years about getting placed on a panel (like the Steering Committee) but I'm usually told, great Idea, maybe, soon or that NETRA fills the bill. They have in the past a representative from a Quad group (Northeast ATV's if I remember correctly) and a snowmobile group. Regardless of who they claim represents us we always appear to be under represented or not represented at all.

I fear the decision has already been made. Some at DCR have egg on their faces for allowing the improper logging to occur which has pissed off many of the exteme eco crowd. DCR's reaction is to appease that element by giving the extreme eco crowd what they want. They've got DCR's commisioner by the balls and he knows it. This public meeting process is just a measure to put some "credibility" to their proposal process by which they can claim that public input has been accepted.

Paul, thanks for going!

It's going to be a tough battle. Perhaps if all 30,000 boycotted re-regestering, we'd get their attention.

or perhaps a "million bike (and atv) march." around the state house. Seems to work for the truckers in France...

NETRA tried that a long time ago but made a compromise and it ended up being a parade lap from the MX Track (in Middleboro?) up and around MSSF. It was a mix of riders and bikes in trucks and on trailers. didn't get much press. If we shut down Boston it would of gotten a lot of press. Probably bad press, but as the old saying goes even bad press can get your statement out into the public.

I attended "their" Technical Steering Commitee public forum in Taunton today. Total BS! For anyone who hasn't read "their" draft recommendations document, "Their" proposals are to have DCR designate the commonwealths lands under DCR control as either Forest reserve (the largest percentage), Parks or Woodlands with no ORV use in the forest reserves. They will designate Freetown state forest along with others a forest reserve.

I'm a CT resident. Thanks Manray and Suzuki4me for attending these meetings. We need to have a voice at the planning stage. If the stakeholders (meaning us) are not all represented on the committee maybe we need to talk to the State Reps who oversee DEP and voice this complaint so we do have a seat.

firstly, thanks for attending the meetings guys

but they're not even talking about how to handle ORV riding?

isn't that good? I figure if people don't know/complain/try to change, then we just keep open what we already have

if not, I'll have to buy a pit bike and setup a track in my parents backyard...

Could someone tell me about this CT. SB 227 public hearing March 1st? I tried doing a search on it but nothing came up. I just noticed it on Netra's site yesterday
