How long does it take to make them? If I order them, will you bring them to an event to pick up?

Just to be clear. Steve doesn"t make these signs. He designed them and had them made by a printer. The signs are printed on heavy stock with a glossy waterproof finish. Steve and I split the cost to get them printed. We won''t see all the money back till next year or beyond. Steve ordered large enough quantity to keep cost down. We are not making any profit. Steve put in the effort because he wanted to contribute to trials in a positive way.

STEVE, DON'T GET TO FAR AHEAD OF YOURSELF WITH TO MANY KITS. HOPEFULLY GATES WILL STAY AROUND FOR 2011. BUT THE COST OF 29 CENTS PER GATE/START MARKERS, SOME TRIALSMASTERS WILL SAVE AND REUSE THEM. THIS COUKD MAKE FOR A SMALLER DEMAND NEXT SEASON. PRINTED ON HEAVEY STOCK AND WATERPROOF, THEY WILL LAST AS LONG AS THE STAPLES LEFT IN THE TREES . GREAT JOB AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Don't be so sure they'll last. I've always made laminated flags and start/end markers going so far as to do a 10 mil heavy lamination and clear areas for staples on either side of the graphics. Even with repeated instructions to the set up guys they get tired or forget and start whumping staples thru the middle of the flags and the checkers just rip 'em off the trees leaving them trashed. I thought one year about velcro pieces that could be stapled to the trees and matched to velcro on the flags so they could be reused but trying to explain that just got me those head twisting looks dogs give you when you make a funny noise. Accept the fact that these are disposable.

I really hope the gate system sticks around. I really liked it. If they do revert to the split method then these markers would still work.

I think it's great that you guys took the initiative, time and money to do this. Like Dan said, he's done lots of markers/gates/flags, for the R&RTC in the past, and I know they're not cheap, or easy (Thanks Dan!). We could use more ambitious people like Y'all in this sport! That includes all the trials masters and board members, past and present, who helped keep the wheels of trials lubricated. I'm looking forward to a great season of riding, I just hope I can afford the petrol to get to the events. Right now, fuel is my 2nd biggest budgeted expense, after rent!! As soon as I get $50 out of our club fund, I'll be getting a set of markers.

The cards are f'n awesome, I hope we can standardize the colors at the annual meeting.
They are so easy to use and I love that they are marked on both sides.
I marked the start/end with permanent marker, but had to clean them with alcohol first, that was a pain.
It's not really 'permenant'; it rubs off when I hit it with the staple gun.
Next time, I'm printing out the section numbers and taping them on with packing tape!
Can you mark half of them 'NOVICE' and half 'EXPERT' for next year, that would help.
I was short 2 start/end gates and I ran out of 'CH' markers, but have tons of everything else!
They are great, I'll buy them again if I do an event next year.
Jareth

Jareth,
Just put the "CH" sticker over the "C" on the C gate marker. Now you have a "CH" gate marker.
I will pay for the stickers.
Steve

Do you still have 'CH' stickies? I could use a couple.

STEVE , WHY WASTE C GATES ALREADY PRINTED, WITH A CHAMP STICKER? I'VE FOUND WHEN SETTING UP EXPERT SECTIONS YOU USE A LOT OF (CH) GATES . AT OUR LAST TRIALS , EXPERT SECTIONS USE MORE (CH & B) GATES, NOVICE SECTIONS USE MORE (A & C ) GATES . THANKS STEVE , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK .

KPTR WAYNE

I didn't understand why you said this until I did it. Lots of 'CH' and 'B' in Expert and 'A' and 'C' in Novice, just like you said. I ran short on 'CH' gates.
Wayne, did any Expert or Novice 'B' line riders complain that there wasn't enough markers for their class?
I have only 4 Expert 'A' gates and no Novice 'B' gates in my entire event!
Jareth

Jareth,
To write on the start and end markers use a Dixon Plano China Marker [used by glass cutters] they work well.
Saturday morning I can bring you some Start and End markers and CH gate markers if you like.
Feed back from Trials Masters is good, it can help me to determine how many of each gate markers are needed for an event,
at the annual meeting this could be decided, so next year I can prepare the kits accordantly.

I just came across an "A Gate" marker that was still stapled to a tree from mid May. 3 mo. in the wind sun and rain and it still looked terriffic. Looks like what you'd expext after a week outside.

I tried that, but didn't feel they were easy enough to read. I think if the word NOVICE or EXPERT was printed in big letters, then a rider would see it riding by on the trail. At the RI event, I had to stop and ride right up to some of the start gates to see what class they were. Not a biggie, but could be improved.
I'd like to see 40 Expert and 40 Novice gates, enough to do 10 sections each if needed or a couple extras in case the get damaged.
Also the splits can change to:
76 "A" gate cards enough for 38 "A" gates
76 "B" gate cards enough for 38 "B" gates
48 "C" gate cards enough for 24 "C" gates
76 "CH" gate cards enough for 38 "CH" gates
Jareth

Ronnie Commo 3 is going to be there, so I want to give him something challenging to ride.....ha ha ha, just kidding, I think he'll have 5 points for the day!
Gary should get less than 20.
We'll see Saturday how good I am at Champ splits, it's been a long time since I made any.
