I'm new to all of this and have only been a PSTR member for a few months. On 2/16 I attended my first PSTR meeting so please excuse my ignorance, but here are some thoughts: 1. I was very surprised that after paying only $20- and having not yet done anything for the club, I could show up at the 2/16 meeting and cast a vote for the officer(s). And to learn that I had the right to put forth amendment proposals (such as what was presented), or vote on others that may have been presented at a prior meeting. This was a little shocking to be given this right for only $20- and showing up at one meeting. Which leads me to say there definitely should at least be a trial, non-voting period for new members. 2. I was amazed at the amount of work details, races and other events the club does, their time commitment and the amount some members contribute. Prior to the first meeting I was thinking it was more loosely organized with much less going on. It is 100x beyond what I expected. So, given this huge amount of effort needed, I do believe it is not much to ask for some minimum level of participation from club members. 3. While maybe a two-tier system is undesirable, I think at the very least a minimum participation level should be met to remain a member. And a quick read of the websites for a few other clubs shows this is a typical requirement for membership. It appears PSTR by not currently enforcing a participation requirement is out of the norm. 4. Concessions should be made for those not physically able to meet the minimum participation level. During the meeting I heard a few suggestions such as club promotion and letter writing to keep ORV use open as examples of other helpful activities. 5. Something needs to be done about the NETRA work credit rule. It appears there are too few opportunities for racers to get the credit. This system seems quite flawed to me. There should be more methods given for gaining the work credit. I'm curious if this is being addressed by any other clubs with the same issue? 6. Since entrants into PSTR races need to be club members for insurance purposes, is perhaps a one-day membership a possibility? Or, if not possible, these new members could be given the trial period during which they are non-voting members working to meet the minimum participation level. This is similar to two-tier system, however different in that beyond the trial period if minimum participation is not achieved these racers would no longer be club members. A monetary incentive could be added such that participating members pay $20- for the race, whereas trial members pay $40-50. Or something like that. My thought is there should only be participating members......those that do not participate are simply not members. My thoughts only, thanks for reading. -Jim
