Can anyone tell me how or if I can register my crf for street legal riding? I know all the mechanical requirements but don't know what to expect at the registry. It is an 06 and currently has an atv/off road MA plate on it. Thanks for any help.

I could be wrong but once you yellow plate a bike in mass, that bike can never be titled here in mass. But don't quote me on it though.

Not True! But its not as easy as people keep saying to street register and insure and dirt bike unless you have a title that does not say "For Off Highway Use Only". I'm attempting the process right now.

Maybe sell it to a friend in NH, get them to get a plate on it then sell it back and have them sign the registration over so you can just take that in and get it renewed in Mass? Just theoretical but I know a guy that did that in Maine and NH I think.

I street registered 2 ktms this year. One previously owned by someone in NY and the other from someone in CT. I had ATV plates on both off them. Gave all my records to my insurance agent and they got it done. They had to go back to the DMV one or two time before they got to a DMV worker to process the request.

Is it even possible to register a two stroke in mass, and does anyone know how to go about getting a title for one?

There are title companies that will get you a title for a bike (without one) that will not say "ORV only not intended for Highway use". The fee runs from $200 to over $700. KTM, Husky and a few rare others come with titles that allow you to register them. Way easier to just buy a KTM or Husky.

do you happen to know of any of the companies names? I just think it would be cool to have a street legal yz, mainly to just get from trail to trail without worrying about being in trouble with the police.

I've found it comes down to two things.

You have to get an insurance company to cover the bike for highway use.
Luck of the draw with the lady behind the counter at the RMV.

As far as I know the trail sticker or plate comes from the Enviromental Police, they don't talk much with the RMV.
A 17 digit vin number is your best bet, it won't raise any flags. Titles from other states are a good thing as well.

I know of one person that placed a dealers return address sticker over the part on the MCO that said "for of road use only" and it worked.

As far as two strokes go, nothing against them in mass yet but I'm sure it will come some day.

Well, I've been talking to my insurance agent and she found out that if I do all of the work myself, and keep all the receipts, and then bring it down to northboro, to the mass highway dept inspection site, they'll see if its road worthy and then after a 50 dollar fee, get the forms to get a title for street use.

So now begins the task of converting my dirtbike into a dual sport/ street legal two stroke!
